Manifesto

it’s tough to be a freelance visionary
without one
broadcasting from your shack
in the sun belt
or from your outbuilding
first draft
with its black thumbtack
be careful with your tainted
patron saints
Tchaikovsky was a stress assassin
but his number five
a major innovation in cool
riding the crosscurrent like Chet
with his magic ice
each day is Valentine’s
a taste in the mouth
like not enough is made of wrists
or tickling the ivories
