Write About What You Know

Write About What You Know

I wrote about moths wings
and shark island
sand-swept but sharkless
the brown pelicans
the fog bank

my favorite game was called
throw something the farthest
a pinecone

and then the roly-polies began
pinging from the trenches

I wore the white elephant
like a bargain-basement suit
cowhand boots parked
outside a tent

and my favorite fold up chair
angling on a fork in the Guadalupe
